Amanda Seyfried has two highly anticipated films set to release in December, along with a fresh range of products from her children’s brand, Make It Cute — yet she’s managing it all.
“Honestly, right now, it’s really challenging,” she shared with Us Weekly exclusively regarding juggling her career and motherhood on Monday, November 24. (Seyfried, 39, is the mother of a daughter, born in 2017, and a son, born in 2020, with her husband Thomas Sadoski.)
“This is the busiest I’ve ever been with two kids, and I’ve never had two movies released simultaneously,” she added. “So, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed right now.”
Seyfried is preparing for the release of Paul Feig’s The Housemaid on December 19 and Mona Fastvold’s The Testament of Ann Lee on Christmas — both of which have garnered significant attention and received some of her best career reviews.
“Oh, my God, they couldn’t be more different,” she relayed to Us about the films. “I’m really proud of both. To be honest, The Housemaid is … don’t read the book before seeing the movie, as it’ll spoil the surprises for you.”
She hinted at the thriller, which features Sydney Sweeney, saying, “This is exactly what we needed, especially around the holidays. Do you understand what I mean?”
This holiday season is particularly hectic for Seyfried as awards season approaches alongside the growing success of her toy brand. Make It Cute, specializing in sustainable playhouses and craft kits, has recently introduced a creative DIY kit allowing children to craft their own tiny houses.
Offered in three charming themes — Bookshop, Bakery, and Fairy House — each kit, priced at $19.99, consists of paper-based materials and plant-based inks. It includes pop-out pieces, sticker sheets, and eco-friendly accessories for kids to create, play, and showcase.

“We create what we want and what we know isn’t available,” Seyfried explained about the company she co-founded with her lifelong friends, Anne Hoehn and Maureen North. “From the start, it has always felt special and distinctive. We initially launched with larger [play]houses, and now we’re thinking, ‘Let’s scale down for a moment.’ These craft kits are adorable and easy to assemble. Kids enjoy personalizing them with stickers, fostering a tactile, imaginative, and playful vibe.”
She added, “I cherish that connection to what kids desire because we adore our kids. We’d do anything for them.”
The inspiration for Make It Cute emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic when she, Hoehn, and North connected via FaceTime and Zoom while navigating lockdowns with their little ones.
“None of us were working, and that standstill provided an opportunity to assess our artistic and creative needs as individuals accustomed to producing,” Seyfried disclosed to Us. “We’d share a glass of wine during Zoom calls and brainstorm ideas for what we could create in the world. It felt like the ideal moment to collaborate.”
Reflecting on Hoehn and North, who she met in elementary school in Pennsylvania, she shared, “They’re my mom group. We all welcomed our first children around the same time, creating a unique bond. We leaned on each other … It was a support system I couldn’t find elsewhere, a place to share inside jokes and seek help during late-night crises, like ‘I think I’m this many centimeters [dilated]. What do you suggest? Should I take a bath?’ It’s an incredibly intimate and nurturing community.”
Amid all these projects, Seyfried is also preparing to celebrate her milestone 40th birthday on December 3 — this time with her closest friends by her side.
“We’re organizing a pop-up event in about two weeks in the area where I live [in upstate New York], which should be enjoyable,” Seyfried mentioned. “My friends will be celebrating my 40th birthday with me.”
Seyfried noted that while she sometimes tends to “disconnect” when filming a movie, she strives to remain present and accessible to her friends, who help her maintain her sanity as a working mother.
“We traveled together quite a bit this year, which was enjoyable, especially since we all have kids. It’s essential to have girls’ nights out, and it’s been genuinely fun because there’s always something to look forward to,” she told Us. “Having those relationships is wonderful. We’ve shared many experiences through adolescence and maintaining our friendships? They’ve witnessed me through incredibly challenging and chaotic times.”
Make It Cute’s Tiny Craft Kits are available now. The Housemaid premieres on December 19, and The Testament of Ann Lee will be released on December 25.
